Main goal
UEFA works in partnership with European institutions and public authorities to protect and promote the solidarity and values-based European sports model. Our EU Representative Office focuses on promoting the sustainable development of football and how European football can support European public policy priorities and positive social outcomes.
As part of the team, the successful candidate will support the implementation of UEFA’s public policy strategy and cooperation frameworks with European public authorities. He or she will contribute to the coordination of UEFA’s day to day relations and interactions with the EU institutions, the Council of Europe and national governments. The job will involve engaging with other relevant policy / regulatory and sports movement stakeholders in, and around, the European institutions and helping to analyse and address complex legal, regulatory and policy developments at European level.
Key responsibilities
Supporting the Head of Office in implementing a strategic approach to achieve UEFA’s public policy strategic objectives as they relate to the EU in coordination with other departments of UEFA;
Supporting the implementation of cooperation agreements with European institutions and public authorities;
Ensuring continuous monitoring, evaluation and analyses of relevant political, legal, legislative, policy, reputational areas and stakeholder activities affecting UEFA and its National Associations (NAs) and advise accordingly;
Developing thought leadership and expertise internally and externally on one or several key public policy topics of core relevance;
Enhancing and help manage UEFA’s network with a selection of EC officials, MEPs, national government representatives and officials from the Council of Europe;
Developing UEFA’s representation in relevant coalitions, associations and with key stakeholder and partner organisations active in Brussels and Strasbourg;
Adhering to the highest standards of ethics, transparency and compliance in all dealings with public officials and European institutions.
Requirements
Experience:
From 4 to 6 years’ experience working for/with an EU institution or a representative office, preferably based in Brussels
Education:
At least a university degree in economics or humanities, but preferably a master’s in law or political science
Languages:
English / Fully Proficient
Working knowledge of another language: French, Spanish, German or, Italian
Any additional language would be an asset
Other requirements:
MS Office / Advanced
Project Management / Advanced
Solid knowledge of key themes in EU sports policy
Excellent knowledge and understanding of the EU and wider European policy and regulatory environment and of the mechanics of EU and Council of Europe decision-making
Proven track record of advocacy at European level
Proven ability to tailor narratives to different audiences
Excellent organisation skills, attention to detail and an ability to multitask
Outstanding communication skills: writing, negotiating and public speaking
Flexible approach to work; prepared to travel
Knowledge of the main European funding programmes, including cohesion policy funds, would be an additional asset
