Job description

 

 

Founded in 1882, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is an English Premier League Club, based in North London.

Led by the late great Bill Nicholson, the Club became the first in England to win the League and FA Cup Double in 1961, and the first in the UK to win a European Trophy two years later. Spurs has since been home to some of the game’s great entertainers, including Jimmy Greaves, Glenn Hoddle, Paul Gascoigne, David Ginola, Gareth Bale, Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.

In April 2019, the Club opened an iconic new stadium that sits at the heart of a £1billion sport-led regeneration of North Tottenham. The stadium is the largest football club stadium in London and is a multi-use venue with the ability to host a variety of events 365 days a year, including NFL, boxing, rugby, concerts, and other major events, plus visitor attractions including Stadium Tours and the Dare Skywalk.

The stadium development scheme has to date created more than 4,000 new jobs for local people, with circa £300m pumped into the local economy each year.

The Club is seeking a Commercial Content and Media Rights Manager to drive growth and revenue through the commercialisation of internal and external Club content.

 

 

 

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

 

 

To manage all commercial aspects of the content department – primarily responsible for external content distribution and media right sales, generating revenue associated to the Club’s in-house production facility, ‘The Clubhouse’ and the content element of strategic partnership solutions.

 

 

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

 

Manage and maximise the commercial function of the content department including media rights agreements, studio usage, partnership agreements and advertising revenue as well as non-tangible revenue opportunities.
Develop a sales strategy to drive revenues through production hire of the Clubhouse and media sales of Club-produced content.
Work with colleagues in the content and commercial departments to create new content productions and formats which drive growth and revenue on owned and external channels.
Control all media rights contracts associated with the business as the lead point of contact, including where it relates to matches, ensuring key stakeholders are always kept well-informed.
Identify new opportunities for the content team to expand their commercial impact, including but not limited to new content formats, expanding digital inventory and innovative ways of serving the broadcast and online media market.
Support commercial team in relation to all prospective and active partnerships planning where it relates to content, included but not limited to defining the content inventory and ‘menu’ available for commercialisation.
Maintain a sound knowledge of the media landscape and develop excellent relationships with potential and current external media partners.
Measure the impact of all external content initiatives, aligned to a clear set of KPIs, and report these within the business to all senior stakeholders.
Understand and utilise the Club’s syndication and distribution strategy to constantly identify new opportunities to fulfil short and long-term objectives.
Maintain a sound knowledge of the internal content team’s workflows and processes to ensure effective communication with outward partners.
Due to the nature of the industry and the role, some out-of-office hours work would be required from time to time including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

 

A proven track record of selling content and services to various media companies and publishers.
Experience overseeing rights agreements and working with legal and strategy teams.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex and equivocal subjects.
An ability to see different variables, risks, their financial impact and problem solve and innovate to create new solutions.
A clear track record of delivering against a set of sales KPIs.
Experience with analytics/data platforms would be beneficial.
A knowledge of media and content landscapes within sport is essential.
An understanding and interest in Premier League football is essential.
